Kevin Janisse

In 1983 Kevin M. Janisse started Martial Arts training in Tae Kwon Do and Filipino Kun Tao. Upon entering his University studies in Engineering, he enrolled in Kong Shin Bup-HapKiDo under the training of 1st Degree Black Belt Jonathon Simmonds, who introduced Kevin to 6th Degree Black Belt Master Rudy Timmerman. In 1987 Kevin received his 1st degree in Kong Shin Bup- HapKiDo (#6-51-S) and then changed his focus of training from Kong Shin Bup-HapKiDo to Kuk Sool Won under the instruction of Master Rudy Timmerman and the Suh family. In 1989 Kevin received his 2nd degree in Kong Shin Bup- HapKiDo. In 1990 Kevin established a Kuk Sool Won Martial Arts School in Charlevoix, Michigan. In 1991 Kevin received his 1st degree black belt in Kuk Sool Won (#A-8740). Later that year he received the National Korean Martial Arts Association (N.K.M.A.A.) "Instructor of the Year" award from Master Timmerman. In 1992 Kevin received his 3rd degree in Kong Shin Bup- HapKiDo. In 1993 Kevin received his promotion to 2nd degree black belt in Kuk Sool Won. On January 22nd, 1994 Kevin held his first Martial Arts Tournament in honor of his student and friend James Rash who died of Leukemia. Competitors as far away a Quebec, Canada showed up for the competition. In 1994 Kevin developed a training program for the Charlevoix TMI Staff to help them deal with aggressive, mentally impaired adults. He received a letter of commendation from the staff in regarding his ability to teach and respond to their needs. In 1995 Kevin moved to Canton, Michigan leaving the Charlevoix club to his 2nd highest-ranking student; Rich Wojan. While living in Canton, Kevin continued training under Master Timmerman and teaching in Okemas, Michigan. In 1996 Kevin earned his promotion to 4th degree black belt in Kong Shin Bup-HapKiDo and 3rd degree black belt in Kuk Sool Won. He also had the honor of watching his head student/wife Debbie Janisse receive the rank of 1st degree black belt (#A-10084). Later that year Kevin's student Rich Wojan was promoted to 1st degree black belt in Kuk Sool Won (#A- 10365). . In 1996 Kevin moved to Roscoe, IL where he continued training under Master Timmerman by driving to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario for intense weekend training sessions and began to assist Master Timmerman with International Seminars. In 1999 Kevin opened "Kong Shin Bup-Hap Ki Do" School in Roscoe, IL. Master Janisse also released his "Home Study Program" he had been working on for years and now has long distance students in many parts of the world. In 2000 Kevin received his promotion to 4th Degree black belt in Kuk Sool HapKiDo and had the honor of receiving the N.K.M.A.A. Black Belt of the Year award. In 2001 Kevin had the honor of receiving the "International Instructor of the Year" Award, from the Martial Arts Hall of Fame, in Orlando Florida. Master Janisse earned his 5th degree black belt in Kong Shin Bup-HapKiDo. In 2003 Master Janisse opened his 3rd school in Clackamas, OR - "Northwest Korean Martial Arts" and became the Northwest Regional Director for N.K.M.A.A.

His wife Debbie earned her promotion to 4th degree black belt (Sa Bum Nim) and was also recognized by the Korean Hanminjok Hapkido Association. In 2006 Master Janisse was promoted to 6th degree black belt in Pusan, Korea by grandmaster's In Sun Seo and Rudy Timmerman. During this trip he performed at the 5th World Hapkido Martial Arts Tournament and Masters Exhibition. In 2006 he also began his training under HapKiDo founder DoJuNim Ji, Han Jae. In 2008 Master Janisse recieved the NKMAA Director of the year award. In 2010 Master Janisse was promoted to 7th degree black belt in the art of Kong Shin Bup. He was also appointed as the next Grandmaster of Kong Shin Bup by Grandmaster Rudy Timmerman. He was also appointed the title of Chief-master for training a student to master level. In 2013 Grandmaster Janisse earned his promotion to 8th degree black belt in the art of Kong Shin Bup. In 2017 Grandmaster Janisse was promoted to 9th degree black belt in the art of Kong Shin Bup.
